From the winding snake river to the awe-inspiring mountain scenery to the plethora of wildlife, the Grand Teton National Park Map pops with the vivacity of life.
Initially established by Congress in 1929 to protect the surrounding area from commercial exploitation, Grand Teton National Park encompasses almost 310,000 acres located in the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. The surrounding valley features the wild and winding Snake River and a variety of landscapes that include sagebrush grasslands, lush valley meadows, stunning alpine lakes, and the Teton Range making it one of the most spectacular mountain sceneries in the western United States.
Grand Teton National Park has a diverse history dating back 11,000 years to tribes of nomadic Indians who summered in the Jackson Hole valley. Early American explorers followed and included John Colter, as well as fur trappers and mountain men, followed by permanent settlers in 1884.
Today, approximately 3.5 million visitors annually may be fortunate enough to observe a diverse array of wildlife including grizzly and black bears, moose, elk, pronghorn, bison, wolves, coyotes and more in addition to the majestic mountain scenery and historic communities.
